On 18 January 2010, representatives of the Municipality of Pomorie, the Municipality of Sozopol, the Gulf of Naples Association, the Excellence Gulf Consortium, and the Municipality of Burgas signed an understanding to incorporate an association, whose main purpose was to present the unique natural, cultural, historical, and architectural landmarks of the municipalities in the Gulf of Burgas, and which would become effective after approval by the municipal councils of said municipalities.
Having assessed the possible legal forms for our partnership, we came to the conclusion that is was best for the Municipality of Pomorie, the Municipality of Sozopol, the Municipality of Nessebar, and the Municipality of Burgas to establish a non-profit association whose proposed name was Gulf of Burgas Association.
The main purpose of the association will be to provide a pleasant living environment for the local citizens and to create conditions for the transformation of the Gulf of Burgas into a strategic economic and cultural centre of the Black Sea Region, as well as to achieve accelerated local economic growth in the area of the Gulf of Burgas through investment in physical and human capital, to develop the tourism industry and modern architecture whereby the municipalities in the Gulf of Burgas will turn into a preferred destination for tourists from the Mediterranean region. The Gulf of Burgas will become a region of sustainable development by active implementation of skills and innovations in all spheres, including environmental preservation in the gulf area and establishment of standards for active utilization of the urban areas in the best interests of the communities in the Black Sea cities, generation of historical, archaeological, natural and other sites and attractions, significant for the depiction of the specific characteristics of the Gulf of Burgas, which can become interesting destinations for tourists and guests, and laying the foundations of a partnership for a common synchronized system of private and organized tourist visits.
